Why You Should Eat Your Carbs Early in the Day

When you choose which foods to eat, think about the job you are asking the food to do.

Sometimes food is primarily about enjoyment, but usually food has a specific function in day-to-day life.

Thinking about the “job to be done” can help you make better food choices.

It is for this reason that it makes sense to frontload your carbs early in the day.

Carbs primarily serve the purpose of giving your body and brain energy. It makes sense to consume carbs early in the day, to power you for what’s to come — working, exercising, errands, etc.

Carbs need to be utilized by your body, otherwise they will be stored as fat.

There are simply many more ways to utilize the carbs early in the day vs. late.

In fact, you want to try to burn off your carbs within 2 hours of consumption, to utilize them effectively without unwanted fat storage.

Exercising — or even just going out for a walk — is a great idea after a carb-rich meal.

Oatmeal and berries can make a healthy breakfast, but primarily if you are active in the 2 hours afterwards.

At the end of the day closer to bed, it makes little sense to have a huge meal, and certainly not one heavy in carbs…
