Yesterday I deleted all social media apps from my phone.
Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, even Medium. All gone.
Why?
I simply didn’t like how much time I was mindlessly wasting scrolling through these platforms.
Whenever I was bored or had down time during the day, I would instinctively open one of these apps and waste 5, 10, or even 30 minutes without knowing where the time went.
Nothing productive came from this scrolling, so it was time to go.
Time is our most precious resource and I want to spend mine on the things that actually matter (namely friends, family, and real-life experiences).
I am, however, keeping social media on my laptop (for now). While this might seem hypocritical, this approach should enable me to have a healthier relationship with social media vs. eliminating it all together.
I can now have dedicated ‘sessions’ to check social media and keep up with my messages, as opposed to what had been an ‘always on’ approach.
I would much prefer to spend a pre-determined 30 minutes checking and posting on social media in 1 sitting instead of an aggregate 2 hours sprinkled throughout the day.
