I am a proponent of low carb diets.
Low carb diets work very well for some people to lose weight and manage blood sugar, without needing to count calories.
I personally feel best on a low carb diet — between 50–100 grams of carbs per day — which helps to stabilize my mood and energy throughout the day without blood sugar spikes and dips.
Many people eat way too many carbs these days, especially considering how little physical activity most people get.
Of course, added sugar and refined carbs are the main culprits, but even healthier carbs like fruit and whole grains can be problematic if people aren’t especially active.
Keeping carbs under 100g per day automatically restricts the sugar and starches that cause many health problems, but simply limiting carbs is not enough to ensure a healthy diet.
After all, when carbs are reduced, they get replaced by something.
Usually that something is animal products. This isn’t an issue in and of itself, but it can be problematic when those animal products are chock full of saturated fat.
