My Current Morning Routine

Andrew Merle

--

I am fascinated by morning routines.

I love learning about others’ routines and experimenting with my own to see what works best.

Here is what my current routine looks like:

I like to rise by 6am or so to have a relaxed early morning on my own terms, before the demands of the day kick in.

I start my day by having a small glass of water to rehydrate, and then drink my first cup of coffee while doing a full body stretching routine. The coffee wakes up my brain and body, and the stretching primes my muscles for the day ahead. I learned about the power of stretching from David Goggins and adding it into my morning routine has been transformative.

Stretching improves blood flow throughout the body and, if similar to yoga, could benefit cholesterol levels and other heart disease risk factors. My morning stretching routine takes about 35 minutes.

With one cup of coffee in the books and my body activated, I’m ready for some light computer work. I’ll do some writing or tackle something else on my to-do list while drinking my 2nd cup of coffee. This allows me to be proactive and make progress against one of my top priorities early in the day, before responding to requests from others.
